ABSTRACT
Most secondary schools organize some out-of-school activities in which an inherent risk forms an integral part of the activity and cannot be eliminated without detracting from the nature and quality of the activity itself. Indeed preparing and enabling young people to cope with an element of risk is part of the educational purpose of some activities, in particular those leading to qualifications such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
