ABSTRACT

This check-list may look intimidating, but it should be remembered that it deals with points which need to be considered over a period of time, and by other school staff as well as the designated leader of a visit. Many of the procedures will be initiated as a matter of course by the experienced group leader, in which case this section will provide a simple and convenient means of confirmation that the various stages of planning have been worked through. For less experienced leaders, or assistant leaders, the checklists should provide a means of confirmation that nothing essential has been left out. In either case, no checklist should be regarded as definitive, and a careful written record should be kept of everything that has been proposed and agreed by all those involved. At the end of this chapter figure 1 (page 15), ‘Thinking through the process’, attempts to place these key questions within the context of an overall planning strategy.
