ABSTRACT

It is a sad fact of professional life that the sort of spontaneous, spur-of-the-moment visit that most adults look back on with greatest pleasure is simply not an option for the class or group. As a professional, the teacher has a clear duty only to take children out of school with the full permission of parents, the headteacher, and possibly the local authority. The safety of pupils in a teacher’s charge depends crucially on the meticulous planning of every stage of the visit.
