ABSTRACT

An increasing number of schools now involve older pupils in visits to industrial and commercial enterprises as a means of broadening their experience by observation, or on a longer term basis to offer them actual experience of a working environment. Other schools ask pupils in fifth-and sixth-year groups to take part in community activities which may involve assisting in a range of worthwhile enterprises include the local playgroup, hospitals for the mentally ill and handicapped, adventure playgrounds, and the homes of individual old people who need help with decorating or gardening.
