ABSTRACT

The location of manufacturing activities is an important component of the manufacturing system. Geographers, as we have already noted, have long been interested in analysing the patterns of industrial location. The location of manufacturing activities influences their competitiveness and future viability; it is, therefore, of considerable significance to entrepreneurs that the best location be chosen. In recent years, governments throughout the world have become more aware of the spatial dimensions of development and many have instituted programmes of regional development to reduce spatial inequalities. The location of economic activities, including manufacturing, and the linkages between them, have therefore become of concern to governments too.
