ABSTRACT

What happened was precisely what academics warn their students against. The project blossomed and grew. It did so in part because of a concern with conceptualisation which led us in the end to rethink what is the real content of the term ‘science park’. This took us in wider, and unexpected, directions. The project also grew because this apparently simple empirical object of study in fact increasingly linked in, as we explored it, to some major theoretical and political issues.
