ABSTRACT

The earliest Old Slavonic texts, dating from the tenth century AD, are written in two alphabets, Glagolitic and Cyrillic. The former seems to have been the earlier of the two. Both alphabets are attributed to the 'Apostles to the Slavs', the brothers St Cyril and St Methodius, Greeks who were active as linguists and missionaries in Moravia in the middle of the ninth century.
