The edinfotainment maelstrom

British television in general, and the BBC in particular, has since the 1950s given heavy emphasis to factual programming that is mixed in several ways. Often these programmes are ‘magazine’ programmes involving several items of only 5 or 10 minutes each; they are often also a mixture of genres-some live news and interviews, a carefully filmed mini-documentary, plus an infusion of entertainment, comedy and music.
