ABSTRACT

There is no evidence of any commentary in Latin on the Acts of the Apostles before the verse commentary composed by Arator in 544: although Cassiodorus commissioned a translation into Latin of John Chrysostom’s Homilies on the Acts of the Apostles, we have no evidence that this work would have been known to Arator. Arator’s work was, however, clearly known to Bede who wrote one of the few commentaries on this New Testament book in the early eighth century for Bede pays tribute to Arator in his preface and often quotes from the work.
