There are numerous ways to connect parts of speech in Russian, some of which are examined below.
Conjunctions To express the idea of ‘both . . . and . . .’, or to add emphasis to a list, the co-ordinating conjunctions и . . ., и are frequently used:
. . . почти все . . . носили калоши — ‘. . . nearly everyone . . . wore и солидные чиновники, и дамочки, galoshes, from respectable civil и дети . . . servants to ladies and children . . .’
