ABSTRACT

Although I share my time between England and Ireland, for the last three years I have lived more in Ireland. I have become part of communities, a professional one with the action research network, and a personal one with the people in the locality where I live. I have become aware of the importance of community, and how communities nurture relationships through listening and conversation. In Ireland the culture is one of talk and craic (fun). Talk in Ireland often has less to do with exchanging opinion on substantive issues than with recognition and relationship.
