ABSTRACT
This chapter extends the previous analysis of the links between contract design, communication, and transaction type beyond a bilateral agency relationship to a multilateral network. Specifically, it explores how new contractual threads can be created to build a diversified web of alliances. Treating the network explicitly as an information system, which is dependent upon complementary decision-making processes and personnel attributes, reveals a set of trade-offs that arise when cooperative activities are pursued.
