ABSTRACT

Participation in sporting activity is often associated with improvements in the health and fitness of the player. Sports providers frequently extol the health benefits of taking part in regular physical exercise. Externalities of sport, physical activity and exercise have not been lost on politicians, policy makers, professionals and local communities. This chapter will examine how participation in all forms of sport and physical exercise can enhance in a variety of different ways individual well-being. It will also explore how professionals in the field can work in partnership to generate opportunities for people from all walks of life to enjoy the health benefits of sport.
