ABSTRACT

Opportunities to work in sports development continue to expand in the UK. A number of important structural, legal and funding changes (e.g. the National Lottery) both within the sports industry and in broader society have increased demand for volunteers and paid professionals in sport. Those who are currently part of this existing workforce face an ever more volatile and dynamic environment. Managing change is no longer an option but a necessity; development must be real and progressive and aim at least to meet individual needs as well as demand.
