Research methods

The theoretical underpinnings of the project demand a research method which is able to investigate deep structures and the practices associated with them. Conventional econometric techniques focus on empirical events, usually attempting to draw explanations from assumed constant event conjunctions. Such techniques are inappropriate in a project of this kind. We are looking for patterns in behaviour, recognising that such patterns may be influenced by a range of factors and different events and that actual outcomes are open even though there may be a regularity in the way in which the firms studied behave.
