ABSTRACT

PH, a right-handed 40-year-old security guard, was admitted to hospital following sudden onset of right hemiplegia and aphasia. CT scans showed extensive areas of low density in the left frontal, temporal, and parietal lobes, probably as a result of mid cerebral artery infarction. Tunnel vision was noted in the left visual field of the left eye. PH subsequently had epileptic fits and severe headaches, for which no neurological cause was established and which he continues to have. He was hospitalised for 4 weeks and then admitted to a rehabilitation unit as an inpatient for 3 months. He continued for twice-weekly outpatient therapy after this period, which was reduced to one session a week during this study, which took place approximately 18 months after his stroke.
