ABSTRACT

In each case the aphasic person also exhibits striking pre-therapy abilities which lead the therapist to devise a strategy based around maximising these preserved processing abilities. MF demonstrates markedly superior oral than written spelling; BC demonstrates significantly better written than spoken naming; PH is considerably more able to read aloud content words than function words. Wisely each therapist attempts to lessen the functional impact of the aphasic person’s impairments by building bridges combining confidence and language founded on these obvious strengths.
