Managing and developing your tutor team
This chapter considers how to get the best from the individual tutors in pastoral managers’ team. This constitutes one of the main challenges for them as a year head or pastoral leader. Managing reluctant tutors is an ongoing problem for year or house heads. Usually the reluctant tutors constitute the minority of the team, but they take up a disproportionate amount of their time, and challenge their authority as a leader. A lot of a tutor's time will be spent on routine business, because this does ensure the smooth and efficient running of the school, yet every and a pastoral issue will emerge which will need sensitive handling. Dealing with the tutor is a far more difficult issue. This tutor is not performing to an acceptable standard.
