ABSTRACT

When six major thinkers are analysed together, in an attempt to establish common points, it is inevitable that injustice is done to the singularities of the thought of each as they are forced into the Procrustean bed of a common problematic. This is bound to happen all the more if the aim is programmatic, with the establishment of an entire field of enquiry, reflexive historical sociology. However, there is remarkable convergence in their ideas, as the exceptions are restricted to one or two thinkers and are mostly minor.
