ABSTRACT

An understanding of the synergetic relationship between sport and the mass media in this era of globalisation requires that one have some familiarity with the organisation and roles of the media in the contemporary world order. Communication is the fundamental constituent of our social lives; it is a form of social glue bonding people together with common knowledge. Because of worldwide access to newspapers, magazines, films, television, and the internet, the mass media have become a powerful cultural source of information and public debate on matters of national and international importance, as well as a rich source of entertainment.
