ABSTRACT
Mr Bridges, extract from the Preface to Divine Wisdom and Providence; An Essay Occasion'd by the Essay on Man (2nd ed., 1736), pp. ii–iii. Bridges's poem was first published about 31 March 1736, and is one of the few pieces which had doubts, even though minor ones, about the orthodoxy of An Essay on Man prior to Crousaz's Examen.
