Probably by Thomas Cleghorn (1818–74), a Scottish advocate, who wrote much in the early volumes of the North British. Though mainly a review of Martin Chuzzlewit, the article begins with a survey of the earlier novels, and ends with a substantial (and highly critical) assessment of Dickens’s achievement and influence.
