ABSTRACT
Y Yashere, Gina comedienne, writer Yashere made a striking appearance on the comedy scene by taking second place at the Hackney Empire 'New Act of the Year' awards in 1996 - the highest place ever to be won by a black woman. She followed up this success with a place on London Weekend Television's Big, Big Talent Show, hosted by Jonathan Ross, and was the only comedian to make it to the final, winning by more than 15,000 votes. She has made regular televis i on appearances on Channel 5's The Comedy Store, Channel 4's Gas and Planet Pop, and most notably on the late-night panel show Blouse and Skirt. As well as performing, Yashere has written a number of sketches for BBC Radio and is one of the head writers for the Richard B lackwood show. She won Best Female at the 2000 Black Comedy Awards.
