Slavoj Žižek became known to the English-speaking world with the 1989 publication of The Sublime Object of Ideology. As the most prominent member of the Slovene Lacanian School, Žižek has used the work of Lacan both to trace the ideological and political domains of late capitalism and to interrogate the tradition of classical philosophy. With doctorates in philosophy and psychoanalysis, Žižek is a researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He also ran as a pro-reform candidate for the presidency of Slovenia in 1990, and was Ambassador of Science for Slovenia in 1994.
