ABSTRACT

Mary Evelyn (c. 1635-1709), wife of the diarist, kept up a correspondence with the sometime tutor to her children, Ralph Bohun of New College, Oxford. She showed herself an acute critic of current plays and books. She commented on Donne in a letter to Bohun dated 21 May 1668 (Evelyn's Diary and Correspondence, ed. H. B. Wheatley, 1906, iv, p. 55).
