ABSTRACT
Advisors and counselors on college campus can be thought of as the “parents” of the university. In their professional roles they must deal with matters as mundane as helping a student decide which general electives to take or as profound as whether or not life is worth living. Everyone who works in student affairs will at some point have served as counselor or advisor to a student, no matter how their official job description is worded.
