Schwartz (1914–66), an American poet and critic, wrote an important essay on Eliot’s general position, entitled The Literary Dictatorship of T.S. Eliot, ‘Partisan Review’ (February 1949), xvi, 119–37. The essay was reprinted in ‘Literary Opinion in America’, volume II, edited by M.D. Zabel (1968), pp. 573–87.
