ABSTRACT
‘The Cocktail Party’ is a very thrilling play which in the reading moved me deeply. The lines begin with capitals so that you see at once that it is all intended as verse. Those who hear the play and have not read it will not know that. I think definitely though that they will feel it to be verse – without knowing and without offense. To me this would be a very considerable achievement on the part of Mr. Eliot.
