An extract from William Maginn’s novel burlesquing Scott and his imitators, Whitehall; or, The Days of George IV (1827).

William Maginn was a journalist and miscellaneous writer; he was a frequent contributor to Blackwood’s Magazine and established Fraser’s Magazine. According to the preface, the novel was published 400 years in the future in Yankeedoodoolia. The title page contains the motto, ‘God save the King!—Old Song’.
