ABSTRACT

Hugh Kingsmill (1889–1949), born Hugh Kingsmill Lunn, unillusioned biographer, essayist, novelist, and parodist, was Literary Editor of ‘Punch’ and, for twenty years, of the ‘New English Review’. His books include ‘Matthew Arnold’ (1928), ‘Frank Harris’ (1932), ‘The Table of Truth’ (parodies, 1933), and ‘The Progress of a Biographer’ (1947). See also ‘The Best of Hugh Kingsmill’ (ed.
