ABSTRACT

This is a strange medley: mysticism, German metaphysics, or metaphysics, if possible, still more obscure and unintelligible; criticism some parts acute, in good taste, and sound; other parts as unintelligible as the metaphysics; and a very small portion of literary biography, make up this work. In the midst however of all this, there are passages written with very considerable powers of mind, and in a style of impressive eloquence; so that it may be characterised as exhibiting the genius, turn of thought, and peculiar feelings and opinions of the Author in a very striking manner.
