ABSTRACT
William Wordsworth (1770–1850), always thrifty in his praise of others, was nevertheless the first major poet to express admiration of Keats's work. There are several versions of the incident related in Extract (b), which must have occurred in December 1817, but although the locale and the witnesses are disputed, the facts are no doubt substantially as Haydon gives them.
