ABSTRACT
From the very beginning of Qumran studies, the calendar has played a significant role in scholarly research on the scrolls. As a way of introducing the subject, it is useful to follow the history of scholarly investigation into the topic; a study of the various kinds of calendrical texts will form the subject of the next chapter.
