ABSTRACT

In Figure 28.1 a prominent Tamu-mai shaman, Yarjung Kromochain Tamu, video-tapes a ‘Tibetan’ woman’s dance group while in Mustang in northern Nepal. One of the Project’s co-directors, he is investigating the migration trails of his ancestors; largely forgotten, the dance lessons have been instigated by younger members of the community wishing to learn from aged seniors. Speaking of cultural pluralism and revitalisation, journeys, documentation and ‘indigenous’ study, this inspiring image acts as a suitable introduction to the diverse themes of this chapter.
