ABSTRACT

Archaeology is well advanced in the Province of Buenos Aires, bringing to light important evidence of the past 10,000 years of history in the region. Little attention has been paid, however, to the transfer of this knowledge to the education system and to the community at large. The indifference of modern scholars to the outside world is shown by the content of the textbooks used to teach primary-school children about prehistory. These books contain ethnocentric and deprecatory concepts of the first inhabitants of Bonaerense (i.e. Buenos Aires) territory (Estrada 1981 a).
