He relates his change of policy to the students, who largely agree that the risk to the dog is outweighed by the certain knowledge of the inconvenience that missing lectures all the time is causing to them. ‘This,’ says Purple proudly, ‘is utilitarianism-exactly what moral decision-making is all about.’
