ABSTRACT

Sandra doesn’t hold with philosophy much. She thinks the only real values are the sort you can measure in ‘pounds, shillings and pence’. So she is a bit mocking when her friend Frederick spends all his pocket money buying stamps he never sends. He puts them in an album instead. One day he puts a set of twenty 20p stamps in his album, because he likes the picture on them-a blue giraffe eating some red leaves. Sandra says he is lucky to have enough money to waste on buying stamps and not using them. However, Freddy points out that he can always use the stamps for posting letters, if he wants, so it is only like saving money, but he does feel a bit guilty.
