ABSTRACT

When she wakes up, she discovers she is in a hospital bed wired up to various machines. The doctors tell her she will be in hospital for six weeks.

At first Toni is grateful both to fate and the medics for saving her. But after a few days, during which the bruising goes down and cuts heal, she realises she is in fact already fully recovered. Why, she asks angrily, is she connected to so many machines? She starts flailing around trying to release herself from some of them.
