ABSTRACT
I would like to talk to you about something entirely different. I wondered, when invited, why the experience of geography should be useful to such a mixed gathering such as this. Then a quotation I saw this morning reminded me, because it has been said not only that ‘Those who can, do, those who can’t, teach’, but also that Those who can’t teach, teach geography’. So I hope I can try and dissolve some of those myths. I want to talk to you about a piece of course innovation and try to use it to reflect on this notion of profiles which I found new and quite interesting, and this idea of portfolios, because I think it would have helped me certainly in my recent experience.
