ABSTRACT

Juliet Mitchell has been an influential contributor to the development of feminist theory. She has entered into and affected some of the most important intellectual and political debates stimulated by the re-emergence of women’s movements in the late 1960s. Her special interest has been in the realm of ‘ideology’, which means to her the ways men and women live the material conditions of their lives. Mitchell’s pursuit of a better understanding of this realm has lead her to rethink and write upon literature, Marxism, psychoanalysis and feminist theories.
