ABSTRACT

Raymond Williams is regarded by many as Britain’s leading socialist intellectual of the past three decades. The range and diversity of his writing is extraordinary. It includes works of literary and cultural history, an original contribution to cultural theory, major work in literary theory, a wide range of literary criticism, studies of modern popular culture, more direct political analysis, several important novels-including a posthumously published novel about the history, people and landscape of Wales-a mass of scholarly and occasional articles, in addition to the seminal reference work on how key historical shifts are reflected in the changing meanings of concepts, and an extended conversation with the editors of New Left Review about his life, work and politics.
