ABSTRACT

Leadership and leaders have fascinated humankind almost since the beginning of history. Each nation and tribe has its set of gods, its powerful heroes who performed great deeds on its behalf. Leaders are recognized through the success of their actions and their ability to produce results. People are celebrated for leadership in politics, culture, business, sport and academia. In general, leadership is associated with positive growth and development, although it has been associated with evil outcomes and cruel dictatorships1. The lives of these leaders have been examined by sociologists, by historians and by psychologists to extract the elusive secrets of leadership. Such research has focused on the personal traits of the individuals, their relationship with their followers and also the content of their achievements.
