Introduction

The book begins with a summary of the expectations upon coordinators, or subject leaders. These expectations are then addressed through an analysis of the current scene with the emphasis upon literacy strategies at national and school level and the links with the English National Curriculum demands. There is an exploration of the knowledge necessary to coordinate the teaching of English and the ‘big ideas’ behind speaking and listening, reading and writing within the Key Stage 2 curriculum are explored.
