ABSTRACT
Development of North Sea oil and gas resources could have environmental consequences in any or all of the three main physical divisions of the basin and its hinterland, namely
(i) the sea and the seabed-the basin floor and its contents; (ii) the coastline-the basin rim or margin; (iii) the adjacent (or contiguous) lands.
