ABSTRACT

Whatever we know about the kinetics and mechanisms in the oxidation of polymers and how they are affected by antioxidants and other agents is based on the experimental data reported by different authors who have used a variety of techniques. Each method, if used separately, can provide only a limited amount of data which is more often than not insufficient to identify the mechanism of a process so complex as polymer oxidation. It is therefore necessary to employ a combination of mutually complementary methods.
