ABSTRACT
Both women had no family and were
independent financially and after much
thought requested nursing home
placement. Their reasoning was that they
could see that they would, over the
forthcoming years become more
dependent on the outside world rather
than themselves. Although having only
mild pathology between them their lives
were already restricted by having to give
up driving (for failing eyesight and general
nervousness of driving). They felt they
would prefer to become accustomed to
group living in a caring environment
whilst Ms B was able to understand and
participate in the decision making.
