Figure 8.1). It is unclear how amyloid induces

tau phosphorylation; it is possible that tau

aggregation could precede phosphorylation

and it is conceivable (and fiercely argued) that

amyloid itself may result in cognitive

impairment and/or neuronal loss. However,

despite these unresolved matters the scheme

shown in figure 8.1 illustrates all of the

obvious disease-modification strategies that

have arisen out of the molecular biology of

AD.
