ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 outlined and compared the principal components of labour relations models in the different countries. The subsequent chapters were based on evidence derived from case studies of enterprises. In this chapter, the major aim is to draw upon the evidence of these to show the dynamics of action at enterprise level, especially the organizational processes and the relationship of these to the national economic and labour relations models. A further objective is to summarize the distinctive features of each of these national models. We then consider whether there are trends that justify claims of a shift towards western European patterns. Finally, there is a discussion of whether some concepts developed for the analysis of Western models of labour relations can be applied to those that are emerging in eastern Europe.
