ABSTRACT

Developers of private land In order to illustrate the diversity of land-market interventions by the private sector, this chapter focuses upon three detailed case studies. Each, we believe, is in some way characteristic of a general, but local, process of land development. The case studies do not, therefore, represent typical patterns of development for the city in general. The three examples are chosen according to the agent structure of each. The first is the most important land and real estate developer in Querétaro, known as Parques Industriales de Querétaro. The second is a family-run development which has responsible for Querétaro’s two largest sites, Jurica and Juriquilla. The third is a privately run company known as Casas Modernas, SA, which has concentrated on smaller “in-fill” sites and has identified a niche by specializing in owner-occupied housing for lower-middle-income families.
