ABSTRACT

This chapter attempts to evaluate aspects of the current level of understanding of urban land and property markets. It begins with a brief comment on the prerequisites for an effective literature and a critical examination of three intellectual premises that have shaped current research. It then proposes three new research priorities and discusses the problem of relating land markets to urban production and macroeconomic development. I outline these as the broad methodological goals for the future.
